PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC). The project involved gathering parcel data within a half-mile from all existing and planned transit stations and identifying publicly-owned parcels in the eight counties within these station areas, which amounted to over six thousand parcels. Once placed, qualifying metrics such as parcel size, shape, zoning, existing use, affordable housing building profiles, and locational requirements, amongst others, were applied to narrow down the number of parcels to those that are most viable for reuse. The housing capacity has been estimated and summarized by jurisdiction. The effort identified a hundred publicly owned parcels within a half-mile of transit, totaling over 84 acres, ideally suitable for developing affordable housing projects in Santa Clara County. The parcels have been mapped onto Google Earth with estimated 3-D building height blocks, which will be utilized as a visual aid by the MTC when it engages with local communities.
