PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Islais Creek Motor Coach Maintenance and Operations Facility project improves bus service for Muni customers by creating additional storage space to house the SFMTA’s growing fleet of environmentally friendly hybrid motor coaches. The project also improves the current site by constructing energy-efficient buildings that will be occupied by SFMTA staff.

Construction of a new maintenance and operation facility supplements the existing fuel/wash and annex buildings previously constructed. New Fuel and Wash facility are about 16,200 SF building which includes a fuel dispensing system for biodiesel fuels, a bus cleaning and washing system, tire shops, a fare retrieval system, a 1,900 square foot building with an AC power substation, and an emergency generator, office space, restrooms, locker rooms, mechanical and electrical rooms. Construction of Vehicle Parking spaces for 165 40-feet motor coaches, 19 non-revenue vehicles, and 80 employee parking spaces. Shoreline Improvements – Integral to the facility design and for use by Muni employees and the general public, the project included major waterfront improvements on a strip of land approximately 40 feet wide by 800 feet wide. Improvements are designed to reflect the historically industrial and port uses along the San Francisco Bay and Islais Creek.
